What Is Botox®?

Botox® is a purified protein toxin, which is cosmetically used to help soften fine lines and wrinkles in the face. It is derived from the Botulism toxin and manufactured in very minute amounts for cosmetic purposes.

Since April of 2002, when it gained FDA approval, Botox® has fast become recognized for the many benefits it offers its users in Washington DC, Maryland and abroad.

This therapeutic muscle relaxing agent is now recognized as a safe and effective way to treat wrinkles with no long term effects.

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox®, a neurotoxin, is injected into a muscle which blocks the nerve impulse that prevents contraction of the muscle. The muscle weakens, and eventually the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear.

How Safe Is Botox®?

Botox® has been used safely in ophthalmology for over 10 years and for wrinkle therapy for over six years. Any possible Botox® side effects are temporary.

What Are The Possible Side Effects of Botox®?

Some possible side affects are mild bruising and drooping. A bruise would last a few days and a droop can last one to two weeks. These side effects are not common and are temporary.

What Causes Wrinkles?

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contractions of the delicate underlying facial muscles very time you smile, laugh, or frown.

The more emotion you show the deeper these wrinkles and lines are likely to be. Left untreated these lines may become permanent.

What Can Be Done About Wrinkles?

Now frown lines, crows feet, and forehead lines can be dramatically softened or eliminated.

This procedure, known as a cosmetic denervation, uses Botox® injections to improve the appearance of worry lines, frown lines, laugh lines, crows feet and other dynamic wrinkles.

Information About Botox® Washington DC Treatment For Hyperhidrosis

Botox for Sweating

Botox® is FDA-approved for excessive underarm sweating (Hyperhidrosis) which cannot be treated effectively with topical agents such as prescription anti-perspirants.

Botox® treatment helps control excessive underarm sweating by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from nerves which stimulate the sweat glands to secrete sweat.

When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, sweating stops. Botox® treatment for Hyperhidrosis is very effective and normally lasts 4-6 months.

For patients with hyperhidrosis, botulinum toxin treatment is associated with significant improvements in mental and physical health, according to a study published online in the Journal of Dermatology.

Alexander Shayesteh, from Umeå University in Sweden, and colleagues examined the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and hazardous alcohol consumption among patients with hyperhidrosis.

They further examined whether treatment with botulinum toxin changed these effects. Questionnaires regarding hyperhidrosis and symptoms were administered to 114 patients (average age of onset, 13.4 years; 48% described heredity for hyperhidrosis).

The researchers found that two weeks after botulinum toxin treatment, patients with axillary and palmar hyperhidrosis had significant improvements regarding mean hyperhidrosis disease severity scale, visual analog scale 10-point scale, hospital anxiety anddepression scale, short-form health survey-36, and sweat-related health problems. Participants had no significant changes in mean alcohol use disorder identification tests.

“Primary hyperhidrosis mainly impairs mental rather than physical aspects of life and also interferes with specific daily activities of the affected individuals,” the authors write. “Despite this, our patients did not show signs of anxiety, depression, or hazardous alcohol consumption.”

Botox DC: No One Notices If You Do It Right

Botox–when injected improperly or overdone–can be noticeable in an instant, and not in a good way. On the flip side, when done correctly, Botox should help you look more refreshed and subtly take away those pesky fine lines and wrinkles.

In a recent article for SHAPE, Kiera Aaron, who is the deputy web editor of SHAPE and FITNESS, talks about getting Botox Cosmetic injections and putting the “no one notices if you do it right” claim to the test.

In the article, Aaron says she didn’t tell her fiance about her Botox for quite some time.

Aaron says that when she finally confessed, her husband-to-be couldn’t even tell until they compared “angry eyebrow” faces in the mirror.

Dr. Joshua Zeichner, who administered the injections for Aaron, also stresses the importance of how much Botox is injected.

“Injecting too much around your eyes can blunt your smile and look unnatural too,” said Zeichner.
